雨の水曜日〜午前中に夫関連の年賀状を作成した後、SOUL LINE DANCEのレッスンに行ってきた。春に友人に誘われて行ったのが初めてで、今回が4回目。半年ぶりだ。
SOUL LINE DANCEは、地域によっては「ハッスル」とか「スライド・ダンス」などとも呼ばれ、あらかじめ決められた振り付けを複数のライン上になって踊るダンスだという。黒人の伝統のダンスで、結婚式やちょっとしたパーティなどで楽しめて、アメリカで暮らす黒人にはかなりポピュラーだという。
この日は「Little Girl (by Graham Bond Organization)」と「Love is like an itching in my heart (by The Shpremes)」の2曲～馴染みのない曲でも、音楽を聴きながら体を動かすのは気持ちいい🎵。先生の振りを見て自分の手足に反映させる動作は、きっと脳の活性化にもいいはず。
帰宅途中、来年のカレンダーと手帳を求めて、毎年購入する書店に立ち寄った。ずっと工事中だった新宿駅西口の改札がすっかり様変わりしている。都庁や西口のホテルに行くのに頻繁に通っていた改札なのに、随分と長い間来ていなかったことを思い知る。
コロナ禍で通訳ガイドの仕事がなくなってもうすぐ2年近く。しかし、時は淡々と刻まれているのだ。2021年の手帳にガイドの仕事の跡はなく、翻訳とランニングの記録でうまっている。新型コロナウイルスの欧米での感染状況を鑑みれば、今入っている来春以降のガイドの仕事もキャンセルになる可能性が高い。2022年ももうすぐそこ。この新しい手帳には、どんな予定が記入されるのか？
先日遊びに来た息子が私に言った。「もう仕事はほどほどでいいんじゃない。やりたいことやって健康でいるってことはある意味稼いでいるってことでもあるよ」。ふ〜む。確かにいい得ている。英語を使った仕事で（たとえ少なくても）糧を得ることは、社会人になってから私の毎日を支える両輪のひとつだった。まだ仕事にこだわる自分がいるけど、引き際も大事かもしれない。来年の時間をどう過ごすか、10年後どんな時間を過ごしていたいか？未来は自分次第だ。不本意なランチをお客様と食べる可能性がある（+今となっては感染リスクが否めない）ガイドの仕事、座りっぱなしで目が疲れる翻訳の仕事……そんなデメリットをも上回るメリットがあるのも確か……ふ〜む。
I took a SOUL LINE DANCE lesson on a rainy Wednesday. As for 'SOUL LINE DANCE', you may know more than I (I found very less information on this dance in Japanese via the Internet)......but it's said to be especially popular among black people living in USA, and also called 'hustle' or 'slide dance.'
It was so refreshing for me to dance while listening to even unfamiliar music (on the day, 'Little Girl' by Graham Bond Organization as well as 'Love is like an itching in my heart" by The Shpremes were used). I'm sure it also helps activate my brain!
On my way home, I stopped by at a book store where I'm supposed to buy a new diary and calendar every year. I noticed the long-term construction of the West exsit of Shinjyuku station was over, and realized how long I'd not visited there. Almost 2 years has passed since the Covid-19 outbreak and there were no records of guiding jobs on my 2021 diary......instead of it, lots of translation jobs and running logs were there. I'm relatively surprised by how big the change was in such a short period of time. I'm not sure what I will write on the new diary......but all I can say right now is that it depends on the choices I make. It might be time not to push myself too hard.
